NAS Contribtes To Connect Schools To Internet...
Denver, CO -Native American Systems, Inc. (Nas), the Native-American owned information technology company headquartered in Denver, has donated several thousand dollars in equipment and services in support of efforts to bring internet access to Indian schools located in remote areas of the country.
As part of its Tribal Outreach Programs (TOPs), NAS is installing a state-of-the art satellite hook-up, data network routers and computer work stations at Red Rock Day School on the Navajo Nation Reservation in Red Valley, Arizona. Additionally, the company is contributing network routers, which will be distributed to similarly isolated Native American schools elsewhere in the nation.
NAS president Robert P. Rutherford jouned other information technology leaders and President Bill Clinton in Shiprock, New Mexico this week to demonstrate the enormous potential that internet access offers to Native American communities. From Dine Tribal College in Shiprock, President Clinton participated in an Internet videoconference with students from Lake Valley Navajo School, nearly 100 miles away, to show how technology can enhance educational opportunities throughout Indian Country.
Rutherford expressed his intense pride at being able to contribute to programs aimed at bridging the "digital divide" for Native Americans. A member of the Choctaw Tribe, the 31-year old company head said that Native American Systems will continue to seek new ways to help improve communications, and therefore educational and economic opportunities, for tribes and communities across the nation.
Founded in 1993, Native American Systems, Inc. provides information technology services and products to customers including state and federal agencies and Native American Tribes throughout North America. The company is an 8 (a) certified firm with headquarters in Denver and branch offices in Albuquerque, NM, Milwaukee, WI, Phoenix, AZ, Sacramento, CA, Silver Springs, MD, and Washington, D.C. NAS is the second largest minority-owned business in the Denver area and has been honored twice by the Small Business Administration for outstanding business performance.
